This Week at Manhattan
Hello Manhattan Families,
October Count:
This week marks the beginning of October count. This is the method by which the state determines our enrollment numbers and allocates funding to BVSD for each student that attends our schools. It is always important to us that students are in school in order to maximize their learning opportunities. Today through next Monday, however, it is also very important that students attend school since the funding that we receive is based on their attendance for these 6 school days. Except in the case of major illness or family emergency, please help us by making sure that your child is in school.
One Book One Manhattan:
Ingrid Law, author of Savvy and Scumble, will visit us next week (10/4). The majority of our students are reading or have now read the books. I am adding the author's link to both books, as it includes discussion questions that you may want to talk about with your child. We hope that you have enjoyed these books and exploring what your savvy is and how you have scumbled it. Our goal is always to celebrate literacy, community, and the relevance that books have in all of our lives.

Halloween:
Believe it or not, I have already been receiving a lot of questions from students about Halloween, so therefore I will let you know what I have been telling them. Everyone is invited to wear costumes if they choose to. More than half of our students usually dress up as do many of the teachers. Students can wear their choice of costume but it must fit within the dress code guidelines, it must not include a weapon or toy weapon, and it can't impede learning. Most costumes fall easily within these guidelines. We don't host Halloween parties in classes, but many teachers incorporate fun learning activities. It is a fun day for all of us. If you have any questions, please let me know.
Parent Teacher Conferences:
I want to give you a heads up that parent/teacher conferences are around the corner, so that you can mark your calendars. Conferences will take place October 11 and 17 from 4:20-8:00pm in the gym. No appointments are necessary, you can drop in and are conducted on a first come, first served basis. You can choose to attend either evening of conferences. This is a great opportunity to meet with your child's teachers and touch base about your student's progress. See you there!
I hope that you have a great week and as always if you have any questions, please let me know.
